Adults with Developmental Disabilities Participate in Fundraising

Adult members of our community with developmental disabilities recently helped raise funds to help build the much-needed home that broke ground on May 1.

Last month, 12 eager participants sold more than $6,500 of flavored popcorn to 91 participants. If someone wanted to donate and not buy popcorn, checks were accepted.

The top sales were done by Meredith Irons $2,100, Zack Irons $1,200 and Delayne Archuleta $800.

The fundraiser lasted four days. Half of the sales went to Aspen House earmarked for construction. Between the popcorn and the extra monetary donations, the grand total was $6,200 for their efforts. This team was amazing and next year they will exceed that total.

Our adults were able to use their connections, confidence and circle of friends and family to reach these numbers. They have also raised additional funds and awareness for the organization through other activities such as bake sales at City Market, participation in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, craft markets and fairs, and by selling handmade artwork and donating a portion of sales to Aspen House.

“It’s really wonderful to see our individuals participating in making their own home, Aspen House, a reality,” said Pattie Copenhaver, executive director.

Thank you to all who participated and purchased from our adults. Even though this fundraiser has ended, you are still able to donate as we raise the final funds to build Aspen House. Just visit our website and push the donate button or stop by PS FroYo to make a donation.
