About

The Pagosa Daily Post posted its first online articles on December 1, 2004, with the aim of providing information, opinions, and entertainment for the citizens of Archuleta County, free of any subscription fees. The eight founding partners believed that the presentation of multiple viewpoints, especially regarding the actions of local government, would be a valuable community service.

As it turned out, some segments of the Pagosa Springs community did not appreciate sometimes critical views about Pagosa Springs made available to the general public, in a written form. Certain community leaders and business owners — believing that only continuous population increases and tourism growth could lead to economic success — preferred to see only ‘positive news’ about Pagosa Springs published by local media outlets.

Within 18 months, seven of the original eight founders had quit, leaving the editor, Bill Hudson, in charge of the website. Mr. Hudson believed, without much actual evidence, that a freely-available website could be supported by advertising income. Ten years later, he had finally resigned himself to the idea that the Daily Post would always be a not-for-profit operation. He continued, however, to enjoy sharing his research and opinions, as well as news about community events and happening, and information about regional and statewide issues.

As of 2023, several volunteer columnists are contributing news and views on local and global issues. The Daily Post regularly posts articles shared by ColoradoNewsline.com, KFFHealthNews.org, and ChalkbeatColorado.org.

Written contributions, with or without related photos, may be submitted to pagosadailypost@gmail.com. Submission guidelines can be found here.
