The project team will wrap up work at the end of the day Thursday, May 21 in preparation for the Memorial Holiday weekend returning to work on Tuesday, May 26.
Striping operations will take place on the newly poured sections of US 160 upon the team’s return, weather permitting.
Hot Springs Boulevard Intersection — The work team is planning on closing access to Hot Springs Boulevard (south side of the intersection to the bridge) to make utility and paving improvements in conjunction with the Town of Pagosa Springs. This closure is anticipated to take place between June 3-18.
Overlook Parking Lot — During the same closure of Hot Springs, the team is planning on closing the Overlook Parking lot for utility updates. The closure is expected from June 3-18, and the Town of Pagosa Springs will be promoting alternative parking options in the lot near the old Courthouse building off of 5th Street.
The Lewis Street and US 160 intersection closure remains in place. Please utilize 4th, 7th, and 8th Streets as an alternative to access businesses along Lewis Street. With the access closure, left turn signals have been extended at the 4th Street intersection; look for the green left turn arrow at the northwest corner of 4th and Pagosa Street (160).
Pedestrian Crossings: With the new traffic shift there are several locations that no longer have pedestrian barriers where the sidewalks, curb and gutter have been completed. Please pay attention when traversing the roadway and use identified crossings.
-
Lewis Street at US 160 is closed to begin underground utility construction.
-
Motorists are encouraged to use 4th Street as an alternative to Lewis Street.
-
This closure will be in place until late May/early June.
-
Access to north 5th Street and businesses north of the intersection will be available via 4th Street.
Question: Why will the Lewis Street intersection take several months to complete?
Answer: Where Lewis Street intersects US 160 is one of the most difficult intersections the project team is working on. The underground utility work includes demolition and replacement of the geothermal, water and sewer lines from the bottom up. The Lewis Street intersection will then be built back with new ADA accessible curb and gutter and concrete paving.
