Archuleta Seniors, Inc. would like to honor Eve Taylor a Gold Star Mother and thank her for her incredible sacrifice she and her family have made for our country. Her son, Sgt. First Class James E. Thode served with the Army National Guard and gave his life in protecting our freedom on December 2, 2010 in Afghanistan.
We are deeply grateful for the example of patriotism, resilience and devotion you represent.
Remembering Our Heroes This Memorial Day
As Memorial Day approaches, seniors across our community are reminded of the deep meaning behind this important national holiday. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer, it is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
For many older adults, the holiday carries personal significance, as they may remember loved ones, friends, or fellow service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. Seniors often have firsthand memories of wartime experiences, homefront sacrifices, and the resilience that helped shape our nation’s history. Taking time to attend local ceremonies, place flowers on gravesites, or simply reflect on those who served helps preserve the spirit of gratitude and patriotism for future generations.
Memorial Day can also be an opportunity for seniors to connect with family, friends, and their community. Sharing stories and memories with younger generations helps keep history alive while strengthening family bonds and community pride. Many senior centers and community organizations encourage participation in remembrance events, social gatherings, and volunteer activities that honor veterans and military families. These moments of reflection not only pay tribute to those who served but also remind seniors of the importance of unity, service, and compassion. Memorial Day serves as a powerful reminder that freedom comes at a cost, and remembering those sacrifices is a responsibility shared by every generation.

Support the Senior Center
New, starting in 2026, small donations can be deducted without itemizing your tax return. It is the Permanent Universal Charitable Deduction.
Here’s what this means: For tax years beginning after December 31, 2025, non-itemizers can deduct up to $1,000 for individual tax filing and $2,000 for married couples filing jointly. The goal of this provision is to recognize and encourage charitable giving across all income levels, potentially boosting donations from middle-income households who may not itemize their deductions. This change has the potential to significantly impact charitable giving patterns by incentivizing a broader base of donors.
You may mail your donation to ASI, PO BOX 3444, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or please visit our website: http://www.psseniors.org/ (donation button). Donation checks can be written to: Archuleta Seniors, Inc.
Another way to donate: Are you 70.5 years old or better? Do you have an IRA from which you need to take a distribution? Did you know you can make charitable donations directly from your IRA without paying taxes on the distribution, up to $100,000 per year? The donation from the account would be payable to Archuleta Seniors Inc and sent to PO Box 3444, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. This gift option is called the IRA charitable rollover or qualified charitable distribution (QCD).
