Pagosa Peak Open School Receives ‘Colorado Health Foundation’ Donation

The Colorado League of Charter Schools, in partnership with the Colorado Health Foundation, recently designated 17 charter schools to receive $10,000 donations to support school expenses during the COVID-19 crisis.

Pagosa Peak Open School, the first District-authorized public charter school in Archuleta County, was among the donation recipients. Student health and food security have been central features of the school’s program since it opened in 2017.

The Colorado Health Foundation recently made over 100 donations to schools across the state totaling $1.5 million, to aid with COVID related expenses. The Colorado League of Charter Schools has partnered with the Colorado Health Foundation for many years to ensure charter school students across Colorado gain equitable access to the health and wellness resources, funding and opportunities they need to be healthy.

From the May 28 press release:

The League is proud to announce through it’s ongoing partnership with the Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) the Foundation has designated 17 charter schools around the state to receive $10,000 each to support their schools’ expenses through COVID-19. The gifts are part of a $1.5 million effort to support health in 100 districts and schools across Colorado.

CHF prioritized charters in rural communities, and those in neighborhoods or cities where CHF is currently engaged in targeted work.

Kia Murray, Director of Academic Services at the Colorado League of Charter Schools said, “We appreciate the thoughtful inclusion of charter schools in the Foundations generous giving. Charter Schools, by the nature of their geographic placement in Colorado, often lack equitable access to needed resources. The Colorado Health Foundation serves as a key partner in helping the League bridge this health equity divide. Their donation is another example of their commitment to supporting students in Colorado.”
