Healthy Archuleta’s gardening programs focus on practical, hands-on learning designed specifically for our local high-altitude environment. Participants gain foundational knowledge of crucial gardening mechanics, including soil health & preparation, choosing appropriate plant varieties, when to plant, and overcoming the unique challenges of the mountain garden. Beyond the harvest itself, gardening offers profound personal and community benefits.
Classes will take place on Wednesdays, September 9, 16, and 23, from 9:30 – 11am at the PLPOA Vista Community Production Garden, adjacent to the PLPOA Administration Building.
Whether you are looking to extend your autumn harvest, learn late-season garden maintenance, or prepare your beds for next spring, this three-part series offers ideal hands-on practice in a supportive setting. The local community will also benefit from planned enhancements to the Vista Lake Community Garden, including upgrades that make the garden more age-friendly and welcoming while creating opportunities for community members to engage in gardening, physical activity, social connection, and lifelong learning.
These three September garden education sessions will offer a fantastic opportunity to gather outdoors, learn directly in a community garden space, and share experiences with fellow local growers. Classes will take place in the garden, and attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring water and sun protection. Garden tools and gloves will be available.
