Editor’s Note: We received the following letter from the Pagosa Springs Medical Center Foundation, dated February 5, 2026.
Dear Friends,
One of the most urgent needs facing Pagosa Springs Medical Center is the renovation of a downtown EMS building to provide expanded 24/7 emergency response coverage. PSMC EMS is the only ambulance service covering 1,800 square miles and a 50-mile radius in our mountainous region, and calls for service continue to increase. EMS operates at a financial loss and relies on hospital support and community philanthropy to sustain operations.
Thanks to the leadership of the Town of Pagosa Springs and the generosity of the San Juan Rangers, PSMC now has long-term use of a building for downtown EMS. However, the building requires significant renovations before it can safely and effectively house crews and equipment. Your gift will help transform this space into a fully operational downtown EMS station, improving response times and strengthening lifesaving care across Archuleta County. When it comes to saving lives, every minute counts-and every dollar invested makes a difference.
Say Yes to EMS!
At Pagosa Springs Medical Center and the PSMC Foundation, we are honored to serve this community. PSMC exists for one reason: to ensure that high-quality, compassionate healthcare is available close to home — today and for generations to come.
We are pleased to welcome several outstanding clinicians to our medical staff. In Oncology, Dr. Sami Diab and Dr. Susan Freeman have joined Dr. Bill Jordan, strengthening cancer care services for patients who previously faced long drives for treatment. In Primary Care, family medicine specialists Corrinne Johnson, PA-C, and Matthew Hintzman, PA-C, are now seeing patients.
In a rural mountain community like ours, timely access to primary care is essential — not only for routine visits, but for managing chronic conditions, preventing hospitalizations, and maintaining overall community health.
We have also added and expanded key service lines. Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy services are now available in our Medical Wellness Building, helping patients recover from injury, surgery, or illness and return to the activities that matter most. Pulmonology services have expanded, improving access for patients with chronic lung conditions. Interventional Pain Management continues to grow-offering minimally invasive procedures that reduce pain, restore function, and improve quality of life.
These improvements are taking place during a challenging financial environment. Rural healthcare across the country is under pressure from rising supply costs, workforce shortages, inflation, and diminished reimbursement rates-and PSMC is no different. Your continued support helps ensure that our community remains strong, independent, and well cared for.
Thank you for your support,
Rhonda P. Webb, MD, CEO
