‘A Unitarian Universalist Odyssey Through Hell’

A Unitarian Universalist Odyssey Through Hell, will be the sermon topic this coming Sunday, May 17, given by visiting UU minister, Rev. Michael Brown, at the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship.

Our Sunday programs begin at 10:30am each week, and offer a variety of topics and delivery. As a faith community we foster spiritual growth and exploration through Sunday worship, small group ministry and social justice opportunities. As a lay-led Fellowship we are grateful when professional leadership visits. Rev. Brown will share some of his personal journey as a child in an evangelical church, and reflections on whether or not Hell really exists. Does the widespread belief in Hell have any effect on our society, our cultural norms and political struggles? This is a question worth exploring, especially as we consider Christian Nationalism and other conservative movements.

Rev. Michael Brown is a Unitarian Universalist minister with over 30 years of UU ministerial service and 6 additional years as a lay leader. He is Minister Emeritus of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Peoria, Il., a historic Universalist Church. Rev. Brown received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Distinguished Service Leadership Award while in Peoria. He also served First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego as Minister-in-Residence in 2021. He and his partner, Diane, live in Santa Fe, NM.

We welcome them both to our community and invite all those interested in hearing more about this liberal faith community to join us. We celebrate diversity and foster a spiritual home for those wishing to Make Friends, Grow in Spirit and Do Good.

Our website, PagosaUU.org, holds information about upcoming services and programs. The UU Community Hub offers space for a variety of opportunities for spiritual growth and connection. The Tara Meditation Group is held most Sundays, 5:30-6:30pm. Email the Fellowship to be added to the list and receive information and notices about this meditation practice. Qigong practice is held at 1:00pm on Monday afternoons and all are welcome. The Wise & Wakeful Circle, hosted by Elaine Harding and Sam Johnson, meets the second and fourth Saturdays at 10am.

The Pagosa UU Fellowship is located in the Greenbriar Plaza, Unit B-15, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd. on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak.
