Music in the Mountains celebrates its 37th season featuring orchestra and chamber performances of classical and world music. A host of concerts and events are slated in venues set in the spectacular San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado in and around Durango from July 6 through July 30.
Deemed as one of the longest-running classical music festivals in the southwest, Artistic Director and Conductor Guillermo Figueroa promises to take audiences on a musical adventure through the classics.
World-class musicians travel from across the country to join and form the Festival Orchestra. You will hear all your favorites like Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Mozart, Brahms, Stravinsky and Schumann, plus an exciting lineup of pops concerts performed by the Festival Orchestra. This year’s venues include Sky Ute Event Center, Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Glacier Club, First Presbyterian Church and more.
Professional musicians high- lighted during the festival this year include the Texas Guitar Quartet and Jason Vieaux, classical guitar; Aviram Reichert, Tony DeSare and Mariano Morales, piano; Philippe Quint and Erin Schreiber, violin;
and Nestor Torres, flute. Attend Pops Night — Music in the Mountains’ biggest fundraiser of the year — and hear the Festival Orchestra perform under the baton of renowned pops conductor Richard Kaufman in an incredible display of Oscar-winning music from films across the decades. This is a very special event that includes cocktail hour, plated multi-course dinner with wine and concert.
During the season, Music in the Mountains will present two donor events, four classical orchestra performances with complementary pre-concert lectures, four pops concerts, two chamber performances featuring principal players, a fun family dinner and concert, and nine free community concerts on its mobile stage in and around the region.
There will be a mobile stage concert in Pagosa Springs at 7pm on July 6 at Town Park.

Music in the Mountains is a fully integrated festival of orchestra and chamber music performances and world music. Its year-round Music in the Mountains Goes to School program reaches thousands of elementary and secondary school students in the Four Corners region through hands-on instruction and free concerts, scholarships, free tickets, a family concert and more. Ticket sales generate less than 20 percent of total revenue.
Music in the Mountains is supported through contributions from foundations, businesses and individuals, locally, regionally and nationally.
