LETTER: Who is Our Town Government Serving?

In Part Three of the editorial series, “Town Planning Commission Considering Developments on Sept. 8“, editor Bill Hudson writes [My italics]:

First of all, we need to admit that the Town government, philosophically and historically, has bent over backwards to promote development, believing that “growth” will benefit the entire community.

Next, we need to admit that the majority of the residents who already live in Pagosa Springs do not want to see unfettered growth take place here.

Forgive me if I am being naive or obtuse here, but is it the duty of a town government to effect the wishes of the majority of the voters, who put them in office?

Is a planning commission appointed by a town government supposed to act in accordance with instructions from that government?
