Thingamajig Theatre Company’s summer repertory season is entering its final weeks at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, but tonight’s performance has a purpose that reaches beyond the stage.
Tonight, Tuesday, August 11, Thingamajig will present Fiddler on the Roof at 7pm as a benefit for Aspen House, with 100 percent of ticket sales from the performance going directly to the organization. Aspen House is working to create a permanent residential home in Pagosa Springs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, addressing an important need for local families looking toward the future.
There is something particularly fitting about Fiddler on the Roof being the production chosen for the evening. For all of its humor, music and spectacle, Fiddler is ultimately a story about family and community — about caring for one another while trying to build a future in a world that refuses to stand still. Those ideas are very much at the heart of the work Aspen House is doing here in Pagosa Springs.
Tonight’s benefit also arrives as the clock begins to run down on Thingamajig’s 2026 summer season. Come From Away, Company and Fiddler on the Roof continue in repertory through August 29, leaving fewer than three weeks to see this summer’s productions.
Following tonight’s fundraiser, Fiddler on the Roof returns Wednesday, August 12, for a regularperformance. Come From Away plays Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14; Company takes the stage Saturday, August 15; and Fiddler returns again Sunday, August 16.
For anyone who has been saying all summer, “We still need to get to that one,” now is probably the time to look at the calendar. The three productions offer three very different nights at the theatre.
Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of thousands of airline passengers diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, following the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the small community that suddenly found itself feeding, housing and caring for strangers from around the world.
Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Company takes a funny, sharp and often painfully recognizable look at love, marriage, friendship and what it means to share your life with another person.
And Fiddler on the Roof follows Tevye, Golde and their daughters as family, faith and tradition collide with a rapidly changing world in the village of Anatevka.
