LETTER: Admiration for Pam Flowers

I had the privilege of working for Pam Flowers. Pam is an outstanding supervisor, cares greatly about her staff and is clear that taking care of her staff means they will provide their best work. I found all the staff at the Road & Bridge building, including Pam’s, to be highly professional with a real commitment to making the county better and helping everyone that walked in the door.

Pam is tough; career Navy and it shows. She served her county and I have always admired her toughness and commitment to her work and ours. It’s a rare job where everyone is working for the same outcome; do your job to the best of your ability every day and always help. I would take her concerns seriously about how the County commissioners are behaving.

The commissioners have proven over and over that they are good at firing our top staff in our county. I understand that was their intention with Pam. Firing takes no skill at all, but the clear sign of the inability to resolve problems, manage staff effectively and is a failure of leadership.

I believe Pam should be asked to return to her job as Planning Director and her real concerns about the County Commissioners should be addressed.

The County Commissioners need oversight and that’s our job.
