Archuleta County Public Health Department and the CSU Extension Center to Offer Free Workshop on Emergency Preparedness
Recognizing the potential for heightened emergency activity, including an elevated risk of wildfires this season, the Archuleta County Public Health Department (ACPHD) along with CSU Extension, are hosting a crucial and informative workshop focused on preparedness. Residents are strongly encouraged to attend this free event to gain essential knowledge and skills for navigating power outages and other unforeseen circumstances.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, April 26 from 9:00 to 11:30am at the CSU Extension Building, located at 344 Hwy 84 in Pagosa Springs.
The session will cover critical aspects of emergency preparedness, including essential power outage safety protocols, an overview of local weather patterns and climate factors relevant to emergency situations, and the importance of maintaining the health of our land. Participants will receive practical guidance on how to effectively prepare for a range of emergencies, understand recovery procedures, and learn about available financial resources. Given the anticipated increase in wildfire risk, the information shared will be particularly pertinent for ensuring community safety and resilience.
“In light of the potential for extreme wildfire activity this season, proactive preparation is not just recommended, it is a necessity,” states Laura Capre, ACPHD Community Outreach Specialist. “This workshop provides essential, potentially life-saving information in a focused and supportive environment. We urge all residents to take advantage of this opportunity to safeguard themselves, their families, and our community.”
This initiative is a collaborative effort between Archuleta County and the CSU Extension Office, underscoring their commitment to community safety and well-being.
“The CSU Extension is committed to providing timely and relevant education to our community, especially concerning critical issues like emergency preparedness and wildfire awareness,” emphasizes Cindi Galabota, CSU Extension Center Director. “This workshop offers crucial skills and connects residents with vital resources right here in Archuleta County. We strongly encourage everyone to attend and take proactive steps to prepare.”
