Parenting young children can bring big feelings, power struggles, and stress at home. Healthy Archuleta is offering support to local families navigating these challenges by offering a Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) series this fall.
The 10-week program is aimed at strengthening connection, trust, and confidence between parents and their children.
This will be Healthy Archuleta’s second time hosting this amazing resource to our community. Given the positive feedback of the past participants we are excited to offer the program again with hopes more caregivers can benefit from this supportive experience.
The program will be available in two languages (English and Spanish) to support access across the community. Both sessions are facilitated by a licensed mental health provider, with the English-language sessions facilitated in person and the Spanish-language sessions will join the facilitator via zoom. Both sessions will take place at the Middle School with dinner and childcare provided.
What Is CPRT?
Designed for parents and caregivers of young children ages 3 to 10, CPRT is a supportive program that uses play, a child’s natural language, to strengthen the parent-child relationship. Led by a trained therapist in a small, supportive, and nonjudgmental group setting, caregivers learn practical skills and receive coaching, encouragement, and feedback throughout the course.
CPRT is structured to assist caregivers who may be feeling overwhelmed, stressed, disconnected, or unsure of what to try next. The program helps better understand their child’s feelings, build stronger connection and trust, respond to challenging behavior with confidence, reduce personal stress and overwhelm, shift focus toward connection rather than punishment or perfection.
Unlike traditional approaches, CPRT focuses on strengthening the parent-child connection rather than trying to change the child. As the parent-child bond grows stronger, challenging behaviors often become easier to understand and manage.
To make the program practical and realistic for daily life, parents practice new play-based skills during one dedicated 30-minute play session each week with their own child.
How to Get Involved
Healthy Archuleta is currently gathering interest to confirm that enough local families are available before finalizing the program setup, which requires coordinating facilitators, space, child care, meals, and language access. The fall program is scheduled for Thursdays, September 10 – November 12 from 5:30 – 7:00pm at the Pagosa Springs Middle School. There is no cost to attend and dinner and childcare are provided.
Completing the CPRT Interest Form does not commit a family to participating, but early responses help make the program possible for the community. To complete the Interest Form please visit our website and click on the CPRT button on the top of the page.
