The Archuleta County Public Health Department (ACPHD) is proud to join communities across the country in celebrating National Public Health Week April 6–12.
This year’s national theme, “Ready. Set. Action.” calls on all Americans to recognize the vital role public health plays in our daily lives and to take collective action toward a healthier future.
As part of the “Ready. Set. Action.” campaign, ACPHD invites the community to see public health in action at a local open house today, Tuesday April 7, from 4:30 to 6pm at 502 S. 8th St.
This event is a unique opportunity for residents to meet the dedicated Public Health staff and learn about the diverse programs offered in Archuleta County.
Attendees can explore information on:
- Environmental health: water quality and retail food programs;
- Family health services: supporting maternal, child and individual wellness;
- Emergency preparedness: ensuring our county is ready to respond to health threats;
- Community programs: Navigating local health resources and preventative care;
- Meet our partnering dental provider.
For more than 150 years, public health achievements — from health prevention services and clean water to safer workplaces and improved nutrition — have added decades to life expectancy in the United States. This year’s theme invites us to look back at this progress and look forward to the steps needed to strengthen the systems, science and community partnerships that keep us all healthy.
“Public health contributes to our community’s safety and well-being,” said Ashley Wilson, director. “Whether it is providing prevention services through our clinic, helping community members navigate the complicated medical and insurance systems, or supporting families with nutrition resources, our department is dedicated to taking action every day. National Public Health Week is a chance for us to share that work with the people we serve.”
