The last Public Meeting for the 30% Design review for the River Park, a project of the Town of Pagosa Springs, was held on December 11.
In May 2025, the Town of Pagosa Springs purchased 1040 E. US Hwy 160, formerly known as Bob’s LP. This strategic acquisition has provided an opportunity to expand public river access, lengthen our Riverwalk Trail corridor, provide additional wetland and park space, and establish a unique and defining recreation location for visitors and locals to see and use as they enter town.
RFP awardee for Phase One of the project, Southwest River Engineering owner Chris Pitcher reviewed the conceptual design plan for all phases of the park and the design-build plans for phase one of the project. The public engaged with questions and comments to help shape the future of the Park. Details of the project were reviewed, questions were discussed, attendees had an opportunity to post their comments on maps for the project.
On October 21, Town Council gave feedback to staff on the naming of the River Park to be Maiku River Park (meaning “Welcome” in Southern Ute), pending review and feedback by the Southern Ute Tribal Council. This name was suggested through mypagosa.org during the naming feedback process. Town Staff will work with the Tribal Council and move towards hopefully adopting the name, showing the collaboration between their community and the Town of Pagosa Springs.
If you were not able to make the meeting, you can still share feedback at MyPagosa.org.
Please leave comments and questions in the Public Comment section and help shape this pivotal piece of Pagosa Springs infrastructure.
