Thingamajig Theatre Company actors competed in the first annual Bob Howard Memorial Pickleball Tournament August 8 in honor of Howard, a longtime theatre patron who died unexpectedly of congestive heart failure last October.  He was an active member of the Pagosa aviation community, having owned 13 planes and two gliders during his lifetime, and also a member of the Gray Wolf Ski Club and Pagosa Springs Golf Club.

Two-person tournament teams were created by a random card drawing.  The pickleball players wore personalized tie-dyed turquoise tournament T-shirts designed by actor Samantha (“Sam”) Luck. As well, actor Allie Tamburello decorated a glitzy baseball cap for host Carole Howard. Pagosa resident Kate Alfred was director of the tournament.

Tournament champions were Trevor Brown, left, and Justin Autz.

After dinner the actors put on a concert with Zac Mitchell on piano and Allie Tamburello on guitar performing pop, jazz and — of course! — Broadway show tunes.

Fourteen actors including the pickleball players are performing in three Broadway musicals at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts in rotation until August 27: “The Great American Trailer Park Musical”, “Jersey Boys”, and “Godspell.”

Tickets are available on the theatre’s website at pagosacenter.org or by phoning the box office at 970-731-SHOW (7469). “Trailer Park” and “Jersey Boys” are recommended for more mature audiences. Evening performances are at 7pm, and matinees are at 3pm.

Thingamajig Theatre Company, in residence within the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, is our community’s only professional nonprofit 501(c)(3) live theatre venue. Its talented cast and crew come from across the U.S. to produce award-winning musicals, comedies and dramas year-round. The theatre was co-founded in 2010 by Tim and Laura Moore.
