Community Concert Hall Presents ‘The Small Glories’ This Friday, May 20

The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College presents ‘The Small Glories’ – Cara Luft & JD Edwards – a roots powerhouse duo from the Canadian Prairies performing this Friday, May 20 at 7:30pm.

The ‘Artists You Should Know’ Music Series seats audience members directly on the stage with performers for a unique, intimate musical experience.

With a stage banter striking a unique balance between slapstick and sermon, these veteran singer-songwriters have a way of making time disappear, rooms shrink, and audiences are part of the performance. It’s not uncommon for listeners to find themselves laughing, dancing, crying, or caught up in a good ol’ fashioned sing-along. Their material is welcoming in terms of subject, folk-pop melody, and instrumentation — songs of love, loss, and environment, delivered with soaring, interwoven vocals on various combinations of stomping clawhammer banjo, guitar, and harmonica.

Luft, one of the original members of folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys, and Edwards duplicate and reinforce each other’s many strengths and yet allow their distinct personalities to shine through, resulting in a live show that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, as finger-picking proficient as it is relatable, and as Canadian as, well… it’s very Canadian. But that hasn’t stopped ‘em from winning over audiences from Nashville to the Australian outback. Their sophomore album, Assiniboine and The Red (2019 Compass Records), earned #1 Album of the Year (Penguin Eggs Magazine) and won three 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Tickets are available online at www.durangoconcerts.com or by phone Monday through Friday, 12 pm – 5 pm at 970-247-7657. Lobby doors open one hour before showtime, and Concert Hall opens one half hour before showtime.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
