A public meeting will be held for the Elkhorn Fire tonight, Wednesday, July 30 at 6:00pm at the Animas Valley Elementary School in Durango, CO.
Presenters will include representatives from La Plata County, Durango Fire and Rescue, the San Juan National Forest, and San Juan Type 3 Incident Management Team. Guests will have the opportunity to hear a presentation before breaking out to tables where they can ask specific questions about topics such as evacuations, operations, fire behavior, and more.
“The Elkhorn Fire is going to be with us on the landscape for a while,” said Incident Commander Nate Christiansen. “We look forward to the opportunity to discuss what the coming weeks might entail.”
The meeting will be live on the La Plata County Facebook page and a recording will be available there as well.
The question and answer period during the table breakouts will be in person only.
La Plata County will host a table for people interested in signing up for Code Red, evacuation reentry, and other general evacuation questions. Wildfire Adapted Partnership will host a table to provide residents with information about preparing homes for the risk of wildfires, available grant funding to complete mitigation on private property, and how to sign up for home wildfire risk site assessments.
