THEATRE: Young Actors Take the Stage in ‘James & the Giant Peach’ This Weekend

This weekend, audiences have the chance to witness something truly special: two casts of young actors will bring ‘James and the Giant Peach Jr.’ to life on the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts stage. Performances are Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13, featuring our Cast A and Cast B ensembles.

Based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale, this high-energy musical tells the story of young James as he escapes from his cruel aunts and sets off on a journey across the ocean with a magical crew of oversized insect friends inside a giant peach. This production is the culmination of an intensive theatre camp where local kids have spent weeks learning lines, building confidence, making friends, and discovering the power of collaboration and creativity.

From vocal warm-ups to blocking scenes and learning choreography, the kids have been immersed in the full theatre experience. More than just a show, ‘James and the Giant Peach Jr.’ represents the joy, discipline, and magic that comes from working as a team — and it’s a celebration of what young artists can achieve with the right encouragement.

Three Professional Shows in Full Repertory Now
In addition to ‘James and the Giant Peach Jr’, Thingamajig’s 2025 Summer Rep Season is in full swing with three professionally produced shows running in repertory:

Something Rotten! – A hilarious, musical comedy that imagines the world’s first musical—set in 1595! Two struggling playwright brothers try to outshine William Shakespeare, leading to a riotous mix of mistaken prophecy, Renaissance drama, and show-stopping numbers.

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder – A darkly funny, Tony-winning musical in which a charming underdog discovers he’s eighth in line for an earldom—and sets out to eliminate the competition. One actor plays all eight doomed heirs, and the result is a tour-de-force of comedic timing and invention.

The Wild Party – A steamy, Jazz Age musical full of ambition, betrayal, and unrelenting rhythm. This electrifying piece captures the roaring spirit of the 1920s while asking what happens when the party goes too far.
