Archuleta County’s YouTube channel is temporarily offline following a security incident. The County is working diligently with YouTube to restore access as quickly as possible.
On Wednesday, May 14. 2025 while uploading BOCC meeting videos, an employee inadvertently uploaded a file which had been compromised during a Zoom meeting.
YouTube’s automated security protocols detected the compromised file and, as a precautionary measure, terminated the County’s account. This action is similar to a financial institution freezing a credit card in response to suspicious activity.
“We understand that many of our constituents rely on the County’s YouTube channel for access to public meeting recordings,” stated Ashley Springer, Communication Specialist for Archuleta County. “We are working closely with YouTube to resolve this issue, and we appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we continue to work towards utmost transparency for our residents.”
In the interim, meeting minutes and agendas remain accessible on the County’s official website: archuletacounty.org. For urgent requests or specific meeting footage, individuals should contact Scott Hoenes, shoenes@archuletacounty.org, or call 970-264-8309. It should be noted that no resident information was compromised in any way.
This incident occurred as Archuleta County is in the process of upgrading its web presence from ‘.org’ to ‘.gov’ domains, scheduled for completion by the end of June. This upgrade will incorporate enhanced security measures to mitigate the risk of similar incidents in the future, increase online credibility and trust, and help citizens to easily identify the County’s official government resources.
