Flooding in downtown Pagosa Springs in October, 2025.
Over the next few days, through Saturday, October 24, projected severe weather and forecasted potential flooding is expected in low-lying and flood prone areas across Archuleta County.
Please expect localized flooding, submerged riverbanks, and unsafe swift-water conditions. Avoid walking, playing, or camping near the riverbanks. Never drive through flooded roads. Secure low-lying property and move equipment or outdoor items to higher ground if necessary. Keep pets away from rising water.
Archuleta County Sheriff, speaking to the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday afternoon, noted that the historic floods last October reached a maximum of about 12.8 feet. Predictions for this event, from the U.S. Geologival Survey, is about 10.75 feet… so, likely not as serious a flood as last year.
“That’s just a prediction. It could go either way, so we’re planning for the worst….
“We’ve identified a shelter location, likely the Community Center… we are not opening that until we need to. The Office of Emergency Management has been out knocking on doors…”
Sandbags will be available at the Archuleta County Public Works Building located at 1122 US Hwy 84, and the Archuleta County Substation located at 95 County Road 973 in Arboles, from 7am this morning, Wednesday, October 21.
The sandbags will be free and will be replenished as often as resources can fill them. Bags and materials will also be available for self-service, and self-filling at the Archuleta County Public Works Building located at 1122 US Hwy 84 between the hours of 7am and 5pm, starting today, Wednesday, October 21.
