Earlier this month, the Pagosa Springs Sanitation General Improvement District (PSSGID) completed a SmartBall inspection of a section of the community’s wastewater force main, an important step in proactively maintaining the Town’s underground infrastructure.
The SmartBall is an advanced inspection tool that travels through a pipeline using the existing wastewater flow. As it moves through the system, specialized acoustic sensors listen for potential leaks, identify trapped air pockets, and assess the condition of the pipeline and its relief valves… all without excavation.
The inspection covered the force main from Pump Station 1 to the Vista Wastewater Treatment Plant and was completed over two days with no disruption to wastewater service.
The information collected during the inspection will now be analyzed, with results expected in approximately one month. Those findings will help Public Works and PSSGID staff prioritize future maintenance, extend the life of critical infrastructure, and continue providing reliable wastewater service to the community.
Investing in preventative inspections like this allows the Town to identify potential issues early, reducing the likelihood of costly repairs or unexpected service interruptions in the future.
