The final plant walk of this season, sponsored by Weminuche Audubon, will take place on Monday, August 3, guided by certified herbalist Lake McCullough.
Join us for a fun and educational ramble through the forest as we discover edible and medicinal native plants. This free walk will open your eyes to the uses and beauty of plants that you might otherwise not notice.
In order to provide an optimal experience for participants, there is a 15-person maximum for this event. Please call McCullough ahead to reserve a space at (970) 398-0923.
This hike at a leisurely pace follows Forest Service Road 725, Wolf Creek Road, to explore late-summer botanical bounty at high elevation near Wolf Creek Pass.
Attendees will turn off U.S. 160 onto Wolf Creek Road, about 22 miles east of town. This Forest Service road slopes sharply down from the highway for a short distance, where there is a parking area. We will meet there at 9am and return to the parking area around noon.
The walk is about 3 miles roundtrip with some moderately steep and rocky sections. Be prepared for rugged trails and unpredictable weather, and leave dogs at home. Don’t forget your water.
McCullough’s knowledge and fun sense of humor have made these walks very popular, and spaces fill quickly.
