Funny, Moving, Absorbing ‘Bakersfield Mist’ at Pagosa Center for the Arts This Weekend

“Funny, moving, and completely absorbing.”

“Two powerhouse actors; we loved it.”

“Incredible performances.”

That’s what audiences are saying after a hit opening weekend of Bakersfield Mist at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts — and performances continue this weekend.

Inspired by a true story, Bakersfield Mist follows Maude Gutman, an unemployed bartender who believes she may have unknowingly purchased a priceless Jackson Pollock painting at a thrift store. When art expert Lionel Percy arrives to evaluate the piece, their encounter becomes a sharp, funny, and unexpectedly moving battle over art, class, and what gives something — or someone — value.

Karisa Bruin (Maude) and Dennis Elkins (Lionel) spar over art, authenticity, and identity in ‘Bakersfield Mist’, opening February 20 at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.

This intimate two-person play has quickly become one of the season’s most talked-about productions, blending humor, heart, and conversation-sparking storytelling.

Performances continue this weekend, Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28, and Sunday March 1.

The production runs through March 14, but seating is limited each weekend — early reservations are encouraged.
