Prescribed Fires Scheduled for Today, Tomorrow

The Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan NF is planning to burn piles in four areas on Friday and Saturday, January 23 and 24, if there is sufficient snow or rain to prevent fire spread:

  • Buckles Lake Road, 13 acres adjacent to US Hwy 84 and NFSR 663
  • Kenny Flat, 128 acres adjacent to US HWY 84 and NFSR 006.
  • Valle Seco, 26 acres Adjacent to US HWY 84 and NFSR 653.
  • Mariposa, 439 acres adjacent to NFSR 024, Porcupine Rd.

Smoke may be visible from U.S. Highway 84 and portions of Pagosa Springs.

These vegetation piles are the result of fuels reduction and forest restoration projects. Burning the piled branches and brush further reduces wildfire risk.
