Petitions Now Available for Prospective Town Council Candidates; Due by Jan. 26

Petitions are now available at Pagosa Springs Town Hall for town residents hoping to run for a seat on the Town Council.

Petitions must be filed on or before Monday, January 26, 2026 for the election to be held on Tuesday, April 7.  Candidates who have submitted their petitions will have until February 2 to “cure” insufficient or incorrect signatures.

The ballot will include a Home Rule Charter amendment and the election of four Town Council seats currently held by:

Shari Pierce – Mayor
Madeline Bergon – Council Member at large
Matt DeGuise – Council Member at large
Gary Williams – Council Member at large

The Pagosa Springs Town Council is comprised of seven community members which includes a Mayor and six (6) at-large seats. Regular municipal elections are held in April of even years.

If you are interested in running for a seat on the Town Council, below are eligibility requirements.

To be eligible as a candidate, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older by the date of election
  • A citizen of the United States
  • A registered elector of the Town
  • A resident of the Town for a period of no less than twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the election
  • Not convicted of a felony
  • Not an employee of the Town

Ballots will be mailed March 16, 2026 and must be received at the Town Hall by 7:00pm on Election Day, April 7, 2026.
