HEALTHY ARCHULETA: Maintaining Whole Health During the Holidays

As the holiday season continues in Archuleta County, it is a good time for residents to pause and reflect on how we are caring for ourselves and one another. Living in a mountain resort community in the San Juan Mountains brings both beauty and unique challenges during the winter months, from shorter days and colder temperatures to busier schedules and seasonal demands.

While the holidays can be joyful, they can also increase stress and disrupt routines. For some neighbors, this season may bring feelings of isolation or reminders of loss, making connection and compassion especially important in our close-knit community.

Supporting whole health begins with balance and self-awareness. Simple daily habits, getting enough sleep, eating nourishing meals, staying hydrated, washing hands regularly, and spending time outdoors when the weather allows, can help sustain energy and emotional well-being during the darker winter days. Taking advantage of gentle walks along the river that runs through town is one easy way to enjoy fresh air, movement, and a moment of calm during a busy season.

We are grateful to the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County leaders for creating and maintaining community spaces, such as trails, river walks, and parks, that support health, wellness, and connection for residents throughout the year.

Social gatherings are an important part of life in Archuleta County and can be enjoyed mindfully. Celebrating in moderation, listening to our bodies, and allowing time for rest help support both short-term well-being and long-term health.

The holiday season offers a shared opportunity to slow down, look out for one another, and strengthen community ties. By approaching this time with intention and kindness, we can support whole health for ourselves and our neighbors, now and into the new year.
