At the Regular meeting on December 16, the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 2025-74, formally honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces who reside in Archuleta County and declaring Archuleta County a Purple Heart County.
The resolution recognizes the extraordinary sacrifice of service members who were wounded or killed in action. Within Archuleta County, there are 35 known Purple Heart recipients, representing a total of 43 Purple Heart awards.
As part of this designation, a Purple Heart parking space has been established at the Archuleta County Building (A.C.T), with additional designated spaces planned at locations throughout the county to further honor these veterans.
The commissioners were joined by an honor guard that presented the colors during the meeting, adding to the significance of the occasion. Shawna Snarr was also recognized for her role in holding the sign for the newly designated Purple Heart parking spaces.
County officials expressed deep gratitude to all Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County, veterans for their service and sacrifice, noting that the Purple Heart County designation is a lasting symbol of respect, remembrance, and appreciation from the Archuleta County community.
