Shop Local This Season, and All Year Long

As twinkling lights begin to adorn the streets of Pagosa Springs, the Pagosa Springs Main Street Advisory Board invites you to think about the real impact of your shopping and dining choices.

It is officially shop small season, and this year that choice matters more than ever. Highway reconstruction has changed traffic patterns and access, and our community also experienced two flood events in a matter of days.

Keep paychecks and possibilities in Pagosa
In true Pagosa fashion, our local businesses have continued to show up for residents and visitors. When you choose to shop and eat local, you are doing more than crossing items off a list. You are investing in your neighbors and in the future of our town. Small businesses are the backbone of the Pagosa Springs economy. They create jobs, support families, and help fund the services and activities that make this a place we are proud to call home. Every dollar spent locally circulates through the community and creates a ripple effect that benefits us all.

Give gifts you cannot click to buy
One of the joys of the season is finding thoughtful gifts for the people you care about. Our small businesses offer unique, handcrafted and carefully curated items you will not find in a big box store or from an online warehouse. From hand-knitted scarves and custom jewelry to artisanal chocolates and hand-crafted fly rods, you can find something that reflects the creativity and character of Pagosa Springs. When you give a locally sourced gift, you share a piece of our community with the people you love.

Behind every shop door is a neighbor
Shopping and dining local also keeps our town vibrant. Local businesses bring color, personality and charm to our historic downtown and other commercial areas. They are owned and staffed by people you see at school events, ball games, faith communities and volunteer projects. When you step into a local shop or restaurant, you are not just a transaction. You are a neighbor. Your support helps preserve the unique spirit that sets Pagosa Springs apart.

Turn detours into support
We know that construction zones and detours can feel inconvenient at times. It may be tempting to avoid the cones or skip downtown. Yet, this is when your choices carry extra weight. Each time you decide to follow a detour, park a block away, meet a friend for lunch in town or choose a local gift card, you help keep our business district active and welcoming. Even shifting a few of your usual online or out-of-town purchases to local ones makes a difference.

Parking is also easier than many people think. An additional 90 parking spaces are now available to the shopping and dining public in historic downtown Pagosa Springs, thanks to a partnership between the Town of Pagosa Springs and local property owners Ronnie and Terry Urbanczyk. The Urbanczyks own the former Archuleta County Courthouse and adjacent parking lot at 473 and 497 San Juan St. which are now open for public use.

Local first is a year-round habit
Shopping small is not only about the holidays. It is a year-round commitment to a strong and resilient local economy. When we make a habit of looking local first for gifts, services, everyday items and meals, we help create more job opportunities, stronger businesses and a healthier tax base to support the things we all rely on. The construction project will come to an end, but the relationships we build with our local businesses can last far beyond.

Choose connection over convenience
We encourage you to think beyond convenience and consider the broader impact of your purchases. When you choose to shop and dine Thank you for choosing locally, you are not only buying a Pagosa product or a meal; you are supporting the dreams and livelihoods of your neighbors and the long-term health of Pagosa Springs. You may even save yourself from a headache by skipping shipping delays and long lines at the post office.

This holiday season and throughout the year, thank you for choosing to support local businesses in Pagosa Springs. Your choices matter, and together we can keep our community strong, connected and thriving.
