The Archuleta School District Board of Education is currently planning to apply for a grant to help build a new PreK-8 school building to replace the existing Elementary and Middle School buildings. The location for the new school has not yet been decided.
If a grant is awarded, the majority of the cost for the new school will need to come from increased property taxes, possibly to be placed on the November 2026 ballot.
To ensure community and staff voices help inform the decisions, the Board of Education will host two listening and work sessions. These sessions will provide opportunities for questions, input, and feedback on the site options before a final location is selected. The first session will be held tonight, Tuesday, December 2 at 5:30pm at the Middle School Library. This listening session will be aimed mainly at the broader community.
A second listening session on Monday, December 8 will be aimed at gathering ASD staff input.
All are welcome at the community session, and we encourage staff to attend the employee session to share their perspectives.
Both sessions are public meetings.
