As a liberal faith community, the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship honors many paths to the sacred in our lives, and support for spiritual growth. Our Sunday services are fairly traditional with readings, music and singing, and time for meditation, prayer and building beloved community. Throughout the year, we host guest ministers, lay leaders, and community members sharing reflections, stories and experiences. We hold all of this with love and open hearts, while learning to discover a deeper meaning in our lives. As a covenantal faith tradition, we hold no creed or set of beliefs that one must embrace. We are a community grounded in shared values with love at the center.
As a Welcoming Congregation we strive for radical inclusion, and creating spaces that honor every part of our identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer family are not only welcome but full members of our faith communities. We continue to learn and grow in areas of diversity, equity and inclusion within our walls and the world.
This month brings a variety of programs listed here. All our Sunday mornings begin at 10:30 with a fellowship hour afterwards. We invite all in to explore with us.
November 2 – Sunday Service, Remembrance
We take time to honor the cultural meanings of this liminal season and share our memories of loved ones who have passed. Samhain, the ancient Pagan festival of Summer’s end, marks the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice. Along with the honoring of ancestors of All Souls and All Saints Day in the Christian calendar, and the familiar elements from the Mexican culture, Dia de los Muertos, we gather to honor and share with one another. You are invited to bring photos or mementos of loved ones who have died, for those you want to honor on the altar we create.
November 9 – Going Deeper Sharing Circle
The focus this week will be through a recorded conversation with poet Naomi Shihab Nye from the On Being podcast. With space for reflection and sharing we practice the art of listening with others.
November 16 – Sunday Service, Gratitude and Breaking Bread
Julie Loar, award winning author, will be offering a reflection on the ancient tradition of breaking bread. We will also honor this time with a UU-style Bread Communion. At the time of year when we set aside a day for conscious giving of thanks, it seems a powerful reminder to share this ancient ritual in a conscious way. Join Julie Loar to explore the topic and experience this ancient practice.
November 23 –Action Sunday!
Our newly formed book group and study continues. Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection by Deepa Iyer, is held on the 4th Sundays of the month. There is still space to join us for those interested in diving deep into personal ways to make a difference in the wider world. November 30 – Rest Sunday (no Sunday service)
Pagosa UU Fellowship is located at Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd. on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak. We offer Zoom services the first and third Sundays of the month.
