The Ruby Sisson Library was recently awarded the Children’s Book Project grant from the Pilcrow Foundation.
Through a generous anonymous donor located in Massachusetts, $1,200 worth of gorgeous new books were added to the collection. Colorado donors Hal Berenson and Laura Ackerman provided an additional $400 worth of new math and science books, and California donors Bill Strawbridge and Meg Wallhagen donated $300 worth of books related to health and wellness.
The grant required a $400 local match, which was generously provided by the Friends of the Library. Each book includes a nameplate thanking the donors, including our local Friends group.
“Books open windows to the world for our children” said Library Director Barb Brattin, “especially those living in small rural towns like Pagosa Springs. We are so fortunate to be the recipient of the generosity of the Berenson, Ackerman, Strawbridge and Wallhagen families, as well as the support of our Friends of the Library. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed.”
The Pilcrow Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization located in Cottage Grove, Ore. Its mission is to provide new, quality, hardcover children’s books to rural public libraries across the United States, adding, “Literacy is the greatest gift we can give to our children; the public library is where we can start.”
