Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County (Vets4Vets) and the Rotary Club of Pagosa Springs will be serving up fun, food and community spirit at the fourth annual free community pancake breakfast, at Stevens Field Airport this Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7, from 8 – 11am.
This beloved community tradition promises to be more than just a delicious breakfast — it’s a celebration of community, service and a little pancake trivia fun.
While you’re enjoying a stack of fluffy pancakes, here are a few fun facts to chew on:
Did you know pancakes date back to ancient Egypt? That’s right… archaeologists found pancake remnants on 5,000-year-old cooking tools. Pancakes have been fueling civilizations for millennia.
The highest pancake toss on record soared to an incredible 31 feet. That’s over three stories high. (We’ll be keeping things a little closer to the griddle at Stevens Field.)
Ever heard of Pancake Day? In many countries, the day before Lent is celebrated with pancake flipping contests, races and, of course, indulgent breakfasts.
Competitive eaters have pushed pancake records to new heights. The current record for most pancakes eaten in one hour is a staggering 113 pancakes. We’re not expecting anyone to attempt this feat at the breakfast, but we’re ready if you’re hungry.
But beyond the syrup and smiles, this breakfast has a deeper purpose. Vets4Vets is dedicated to supporting local veterans and their families, offering services focused on wellness, empowerment and self-sufficiency. From wellness check-ins to arranging transportation to appointments, Vets4Vets ensures that no veteran feels left behind.
“We serve pancakes, but, more importantly, we serve those who have served us,” said Vets4Vets president Rick Walker. “This breakfast is a way to bring the community together, honor our veterans, and spread awareness about the resources and support available.”
The Rotary Club of Pagosa Springs lives its motto “Service Above Self,” awarding more than $564,000 in scholarships since 1982, building homes, cleaning up our community and supporting local nonprofits.
Together, we turn generosity into lasting change.
The breakfast is free to the community, with donations gratefully accepted to support Vets4Vets and Rotary Club of Pagosa Springs programs. Attendees can also learn more about upcoming meetings, volunteer opportunities and how to get involved with both organizations.
So bring your appetite and come join a heartwarming event that flips the focus back to community.
Whether you’re a pancake pro or just in it for the syrup, the fourth annual free community pancake breakfast is a can’t-miss morning of fun, food and fellowship.
