A simple evening out can make a big impact for small businesses during construction.
With construction underway along U.S. 160, getting to and around downtown Pagosa Springs isn’t always easy. But while the detours and orange cones are temporary, the challenges for our small businesses are a daily reality. That’s why events like the Wednesday Wine Walks aren’t just about wine; they’re also a meaningful show of community support.
This week’s Wine Walk, sponsored by Pagosa Springs Rotary Club and hosted by the Pagosa Springs Main Street Program, is this Wednesday, August 27. Admission is free. Anyone 21 and older can buy a $10 wine walk pass (cash only) to enjoy three glasses and a chance to win prizes from local businesses.
All attendees can enter to win:
One of two $100 gift cards to local businesses
A Wolf Creek Ski Area lift ticket
The fun will start at 4:30pm on either end of the 400 block of Pagosa Street. Shops will be open into the evening along the historic block.
Wine stations will be set up throughout the block.
The volunteers from Pagosa Spring Main Street will once again be giving away gift cards to local businesses — and this time, a day pass to the ski area. Look for the Main Street table to register.
“The wine is great, but it’s the community support that really shines,” said Kathleen McFadden, Main Street Coordinator. “When people take the time to show up downtown, it sends a powerful message that we care about what happens here.”
This will be the third Wine Walk; attendance surged in July, up 57 percent, raising $1,180 for the Main Street Business Assistance Fund. The money goes to downtown businesses working through construction disruptions.
The impact doesn’t stop there. The best way to support our local businesses is to keep showing up, whether there’s an event or not. Shop local. Dine local. Tell your friends. Every purchase helps keep the lights on, the doors open and the heart of Pagosa Springs strong.
Even the giveaway prizes — gift cards to local businesses — are a way to keep those dollars circulating right here at home.
These events are possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors and the commitment of our community. Past Wine Walks were supported by the Chamber of Commerce and Mountain Rotary Club. Thursday’s August 27 walk is sponsored by the Pagosa Springs Rotary Club, and the September 24 finale will be hosted by Pagosa Springs Main Street.
Come for the wine and the social scene… stay for the businesses… and be part of the community effort that’s helping downtown survive and thrive through change.
