The Elkhorn Fire north of Durango has estimated on Sunday at 298 acres, with containment at about 50%.
The fire was first reported on July 26, cause uncertain and under investigation. 190 personnel are working the fire.
Sunday’s reduction in total acreage, compared to earlier estimates, is due to more accurate mapping. Firefighters walked the entire perimeter of the fire on Sunday to more accurately calculate the fire footprint.
Evacuation zones 3 and 5 remain on a “Get Set” status at this time. A Forest Closure Order of Missionary Ridge Road remains in place.
