Work activity this week
A one-lane closure will be in place beginning at 7pm through the night on Monday, July 14 to replace the storm drain between 1st and 4th Streets. Plan for alternating traffic and possible delays.
Waterline work and testing at 2nd Street; the south side of the 2nd Street intersection will remain closed through the end of this week for ongoing utility work.
Excavation of geothermal utilities near Tennyson Park. Pedestrians need to plan for sidewalk detours around the work at this location starting in mid August.
Install and adjust stormwater inlet grates from 1st to 5th Streets.
Ongoing subgrade preparation will take place from 1st to 3rd Streets.
The next planned water shutdown in the 200 block will be when the team installs a new fire hydrant for the Town of Pagosa, though this will be attempted to be completed overnight.
Installation of light pole bases from 1st to 3rd Streets.
Installation of multi-duct and street light conduit along US 160 (Pagosa Street) from 1st to 3rd Streets and 8th to McCabe CreekUpdate sewer service lines in the 400 block.
Utility work will begin in front of Pagosa Middle School; the plan is to have utility work completed in advance of the first day of school on September 2.
The 2nd and 4th Street intersections on the north side of US 160 will remain closed until utility and drainage work is complete.

Watch Where You Walk
Pedestrian crosswalks will be open at 1st, 3rd and 4th Streets. Mid-block crossings between 4th and 5th remain closed, but the crosswalk at 5th Street remains open.

The River Center stop #18 has moved to 1st St. and US 160 in front of the museum. Bus stop #19, 2nd St. and US 160 has moved to 2nd St. and Lewis St.

Safety tips for pedestrians
- Watch where you are going. Do not enter the work zone or climb over work zone safety barriers. Construction work may be fascinating, but always prioritize navigating the work zone as safely as you can.
- Pay attention to posted signs in the project area and follow all workers’ instructions. Cross streets at open crosswalks or intersections; walk on sidewalks whenever they are available.
- Be alert for moving construction vehicles and other unexpected hazards, which often move suddenly and quickly. Stay off your phone when crossing the street or walking near the work zone.
- Look out for traffic before crossing the street make eye contact with drivers so you know they see you.

Safety tips for drivers
- Look out for pedestrians and bicyclists everywhere, at all times, and especially in areas near schools, parks, shopping areas and transit stops.
- Slow down as you approach the work zone. Give workers extra room and be prepared to stop.
- Stop before a crosswalk, not in it.
- Obey all traffic signals. All light signals are operational and must be obeyed.
- Put your cellphone down. Never drive distracted or impaired.
