Yesterday, Healthier Colorado launched an ad campaign thanking Congressman Jeff Hurd for defending Medicaid, by signing onto an April 14, 2025, letter to Congressional leaders asking for protection of the program.
The ads, which are running in The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, The Durango Herald, and Colorado Politics, encourage Congressman Hurd’s constituents in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to thank him for standing up for a program that covers nearly one in three of the district’s residents. They also ask Congressman Hurd to continue fighting to protect Medicaid as Congress debates the federal budget in the coming weeks.
Jake Williams, Healthier Colorado’s CEO, shared the following statement regarding the campaign:
“The proposed federal cuts to Medicaid aren’t simply a budget line item in the beltway political game; they would have devastating consequences for our health and our economy back here in Colorado. Congressman Hurd gets it, and his common-sense leadership in defending Medicaid is a breath of fresh air. There is also much more work for Congressman Hurd and his colleagues to do as Congress debates the federal budget. The banner of preventing ‘waste, fraud, and abuse’ cannot be used in bad faith to mask cuts that hurt people’s access to care. This especially applies to the use of provider fees, which are critical to our state in funding programs for 425,000 Coloradans, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Medicaid expansion for lower-income adults, funding for kids and pregnant women in the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Medicaid buy-in coverage for children and working adults with disabilities.”
Healthier Colorado is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the voices of Coloradans in the public policy process to improve the health of our state’s residents. We believe that every Coloradan should have a fair chance at living a healthy life.
