What’s Stopping You From Owning a Home in Pagosa?

I started reading the new Housing Needs Assessment approved last week by the Town Council and the Board of County Commissioners, and realized there is very little in there about what is actually causing our housing issues, according to the community perspective.

I would like to see this input from the community, and have decided to conduct a survey in the hopes we have good feedback that can be presented to the BOCC and Town Council on why residents can not afford homes currently.

Take the Survey: What’s Stopping You From Owning a Home in Pagosa?

Share your real experiences. Homeownership is a goal many residents in Archuleta County and Pagosa Springs share — but the path to owning a home can look different for everyone. Whether you’re currently renting, own land but haven’t built, or are just thinking about your future here, we want to hear your story.

This short survey was created by local residents to better understand the real experiences and perspectives of people who live and work in this community. The goal is simple: to listen.

Recent local housing reports created for the Town and County governments have focused on supply and demand, but may not reflect the full range of personal challenges and priorities.

  • This survey gives residents the opportunity to share:
  • What makes it difficult (or easy) to own a home in Archuleta County
  • What types of housing people are most interested in seeing
  • How growth, infrastructure, or regulations may affect the housing experience
  • What factors matter most when planning for the future

What will be done with the results?
Survey responses will be:

  • Collected anonymously
  • Shared publicly to help inform conversations about housing and community planning
  • Submitted to local leaders and organizations who are working on housing-related issues

The intention is to provide a more complete picture of what residents are experiencing and what they value. Whether you own a home, rent, commute, or are still figuring it out — your input is valued. This is simply an opportunity to be part of the conversation.
