There’s something happening here
But what it is ain’t exactly clear
The present administration is a strange brew of billionaires and sycophants ‒ and not a historian in the bunch. Winston Churchill reminded us that “those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.” Now these nitwits are enacting their version of the historical Smoot-Hawely Tariff Act of 1930, “one of the most catastrophic acts in Congressional history” and “one of the primary causes of the Great Depression.”
The Cabinet, comprised of business moguls and wealthy investors, deal in numbers. But American citizens aren’t numbers, we’re people, dammit. Unfortunately, according to Republican reasoning, it’s policy and party over people. These cold, calculating fat cats talk about the economy, but there isn’t an actual economist in the bunch. These kleptocrats are not interested in the poor or the middle classes, they’re only concerned about profits, high yield investments and tax breaks for the rich. It’s the bottom line, stupid!
Trump equates greatness with wealth. (He knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.) What made America great was our goodness and compassion. American kindness has been replaced with greed and self-interest. Sure, we need a vibrant economy, but at what cost? Alienating our allies with high tariffs is not the way. Isolationism is not the way. Making Canada and Greenland part of the United States is certainly not the way. It’s all about money and power – and our credibility is at an all-time low!
Everybody look what’s going down
Trump and his fellow oligarchs are eviscerating America – piece by piece – and at a mind-blowing pace. Nothing is off the table (or the chopping block). The richest man in the world and his teenage ninja techies are taking a hatchet and going to work on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the IRS, the HHS, the Inspectors General, FEMA, the VA, etc. Now there are thousands of ex-government employees looking for work. And if you think government will be more efficient with all the experts and dedicated public servants missing, think again.
And speaking of systematic demolition… how’s our Constitution holding up? Not well.
Meanwhile, we have abandoned the EU, NATO, Ukraine and all our allies around the world. And for some inexplicable reason Trump has united with a cabal of fascist dictators: the Axis of Evil. Of course he has, he’s one of them. And what about his latest ‘bromance’ with El Salvador’s ruthless strongman? Who’s side is he on anyway? Some would call it treason.

Human rights is a phrase you’ll never hear at the White House. Just look at their cruel immigration policies. Due process and the rule of law are treated like quaint catchphrases from the despised Obama administration. At the West Wing, lying has been turned into an art form. And certain members of the Trump team have actually been fired for telling the truth! In MAGA World, loyalty trumps character every time.
The regime is targeting liberals, Federal judges, universities, the media, law firms, and anyone who has uttered a disparaging word directed at Our Dear Leader. They have weaponized the DOJ, the IRS, the FBI . . . and even religion.
Say hello to Pastor Paula White (as in white racist), a goofy Christian Nationalist who speaks in tongues while blessing Trump, the new Messiah. She is now considered an “official government employee” and has her own ecclesiastic office near her orange savior.
There’s battle lines being drawn
There is a huge popular movement underway in America. Tens of thousands of peaceful demonstrators are gathering across our nation to protest the deconstruction of our democracy. We have had enough of authoritarianism, oligarchy, kleptocracy; and confusion, incompetence and inequity.
Some say that Trump should be impeached immediately. But the only way a third impeachment could possibly work would be for Republicans to launch it. At this point, that would be unlikely. But if the predicted recession hits soon it could be a reality. (Stymie Republican’s ability to make money and they’ll forsake right-wing ideology in a heartbeat.)
Most concerned citizens believe that the midterm elections will be our saving grace. More somber liberals believe that November 2026 will be too late; that if our protests grow exponentially, threatening the administration, Trump would declare a national emergency, imposing indefinite martial law, suspending all civil processes – including elections!
