‘All is Calm’ Opens Tonight, Dec. 13 at PSCA… Runs Through Dec. 28

The Thingamajig Theatre Company’s production of ‘All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914’ returns to the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts this holiday season, opening tonight, Friday, December 13, and running through December 28, 2024.

Following its record-breaking debut in 2023, which became the most attended and critically acclaimed holiday show in the company’s history, this year’s reprise promises another incredible experience. ‘All is Calm’ tells the true story of the Christmas truce of 1914, when soldiers on both sides of the First World War laid down their arms, shared songs, exchanged gifts, and celebrated a moment of peace amidst the devastation of war.

The show is a moving tribute to the power of humanity and music to unite us, even in the most trying of circumstances.

Nationally recognized and critically acclaimed, the production originated with Theater Latté Da in Minneapolis and has toured internationally, earning widespread praise. Its off-Broadway run won the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and The New York Times lauded the show as “profoundly moving” and “a stunning testimony to the human spirit.”

The Thingamajig team is bringing back the creative forces that made last year’s production such a success. Director Andrew Barratt Lewis returns to helm the show, with lighting by MacKenzie Lowe and costumes by Nanette Cheffers, whose attention to historical accuracy and evocative detail enriches the storytelling. Music Director Dominic Girolami, who also performs in the cast, brings his expertise from New York, ensuring the show’s vocal and musical elements remain top-notch.

Returning cast members include the talented Robert Neel, Gustavo Palma, and Keenan Pasqua. Joining them are Trevor Brown, a Thingamajig favorite, along with Jesse McFarland (making a much-anticipated return since his standout performance in 2019’s ‘A Grand Night for Singing’), Quinn McGillion, and Alex Ramirez Cannon, all of whom hail from New York or Texas and bring fresh energy to this year’s production.

Unlike traditional holiday shows, ‘All is Calm’ transcends the usual seasonal fare with its unique combination of music and storytelling. The show’s a cappella score—featuring trench songs, patriotic anthems, and Christmas carols—evokes the raw emotion of the soldiers’ experience. It’s a production that resonates deeply with audiences, regardless of age or familiarity with theatre, offering something for everyone. This isn’t just a play — it’s a historical and emotional journey that captures a profound moment of shared humanity. The absence of a traditional script makes it accessible and compelling, with music and ensemble storytelling taking center stage.

This 2024 production marks the final opportunity to experience ‘All is Calm’ at Thingamajig Theatre Company. With last year’s shows selling out rapidly, tickets are expected to be in high demand again this year. Don’t miss your chance to witness this remarkable holiday event, as it will leave audiences inspired and touched by the enduring message of peace and unity.
