DEVIL MOUNTAIN CHRONICLES: November 5th Can’t Come Soon Enough

“It’s been a long time comin’ but I know, a change gonna come.”

— Sam Cooke

I invite you to compare and contrast our two candidates for President. This is the most consequential election since 1860, and a well informed decision is a matter of paramount importance.

In 1989, Ronald Reagan gave his Farewell Address and called America “a shining city upon a hill.” But Trump has recently called America “the garbage can of the world.”  He was speaking of the immigration problem and referred to migrants as “animals” who “poison the blood of our country.”

President Reagan called us a “nation of immigrants.”  Trump was married to two of them.

Sure, we have a problem with illegal immigration, but a bipartisan Senate Bill authored by Republican Senator Lankford, substantially addressing the border, was stymied by Trump for solely political reasons.

Is it any wonder that Kamala Harris calls Donald Trump “an unserious person?” Unless you think that talking about Hannibal Lecter is serious; or electric boats, sharks and electrocution; windmills causing cancer; global warming as a hoax; Democrats controlling the weather; and Haitian workers eating the pets in Springfield. Yeah, that’s serious.

Abraham Lincoln said “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” But Trump has effectively pitted Americans against each other for political gain. He is a divider – Kamala is a uniter. She has pledged to seat Republicans at the table whereas Trump calls anyone who disagrees with him “vermin” and “an enemy from within,” phrases right out of Adolf’s playbook. (And I’m not talking about the tasty meat tenderizer.) He vows retribution for all who oppose him while Kamala vows to be a president for all.

The choice is clear: A vote for Harris/Walz is a vote for normalcy and stability. A vote for Trump/Vance is a vote for chaos and division. They evidently don’t know the meaning of e pluribis unum.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst you can do is nothing.”

— Theodore Roosevelt

Trump promises the biggest deportation of illegal migrants in history. His sordid plan will separate more children from their parents and cause immense suffering (and it will cost taxpayers billions). This is not a humane plan, it’s more of a Nazi SS operation.

Lincoln said, “With malice for none, with charity for all.” It’s very clear: Trump embodies cruelty and insults — Harris embodies compassion and dignity for all.

Does character matter? Evidently not, if you vote for Trump.

Kamala has family values, Trump has Manson family values. He has cheated on all three of his wives, paid off a porn star, brags about grabbing women by the hoo-hoo, and lost a sexual molestation case that cost him millions. At a rally, the gentleman – and I use the word lightly – spun a lengthy tale about Arnold Palmer. It was a whopper! And what about the thousands of documented lies he’s uttered? Lately he’s been spouting more and more profanity in his long winded, rambling speeches.

How can loving parents possibly believe that Donald Trump is a good role model for their children?

And then there’s the matter of Trump claiming he won the 2020 election. He said there was fraud everywhere, but his overpaid lawyers were shut down 61 times in federal courts. There was no fraud. And many of those judges were Trump appointees.

If that wasn’t enough, he incited a mob to attack the Capitol to halt the certification of said election. He watched the whole disgusting mess on TV in the West Wing while devouring hamburgers and slamming Diet Cokes.

When told that his VP was in grave danger he replied: “So what.”

January 6 is a ketchup stain on American history. 140 officers were injured as a result of the insurrection. Many of the insurrectionists were later tried and convicted and many are still in prison. But wait… If elected, Trump says he’ll pardon all of them. He also stated that “we” were not armed (a lie) but “they” were. He basically admitted that he was a part of the insurrection and the enemy was law enforcement.

Trump was impeached twice, charged with several federal and state crimes and was tried and convicted of 34 charges of falsifying business records. He will be sentenced on November15.

Kamala Harris looks forward to sitting in the White House while her opponent will be sitting in the Big House. You see, Madam Vice President is the prosecutor and Trump is the criminal.

I’m sorry to go on in this manner, but this information might help you make the right choice on Tuesday…

Now there are hundreds of noted Republicans endorsing Kamala Harris for president. Former WH Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly warns, if elected “Trump would rule like a dictator.” Gen. Mark Milly: “No one has ever been as dangerous to this country as Donald Trump. He’s a total fascist.” Good Republicans. Do the right thing and please vote blue. (Just don’t tell anyone). And remember: It’s the Constitution or Project 2025.

It’s your choice. One or the other.

Kamala has a to-do list, Trump has an enemy list; Kamala will compromise and work across the aisle, Trump is intransigent; Kamala is joyful, Trump is dour; Kamala is honest, Trump is a liar; Kamala is calm and collected, Trump is chaotic, old and demented; Kamala has actual plans, Trump has concepts of plans; Kamala puts country over party, Trump puts himself over country; Kamala has an economic plan hailed by most economists, Trump’s tariffs, according to top economists, will put us in a recession.

The vile Madison Square Garden rally, Trump’s closing argument, was the last nail in his coffin, so to speak. The hateful event was a conga line of radical racists, misogynists, homophobes and foulmouthed toadies who managed to alienate a huge swath of America. Our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters were offended the most. Donald “Pendejo” Trump unwittingly unified angry Puerto Ricans into a huge voting block – all voting against him.

Later Trump called the grotesque rally a “love fest!” That’s idiotic.

In contrast, Kamala Harris spoke at the Ellipse in Washington to an overflowing crowd of 75,000 jubilant Americans. The prosecutor rested her case against Donald Trump in a well-crafted fiery speech, delivered perfectly. Her calm, measured demeanor looked presidential — especially with the stately White House as a backdrop.

Kamala Harris will be our first female president. (It’s about time.) She has the credentials of a life well spent in service of the people whom she represented in the courts, the U.S. Senate and in the Biden Administration. And now she will represent a grateful nation. All we have to do is vote for her and Governor Tim Walz on Tuesday.  It may be the most important decision of our lives.

Donald Trump is an existential threat to our democracy and our national security. He cannot be allowed anywhere near the White House.

Kamala Harris: “Let’s turn the page, and together we will chart a new and joyful way forward!”

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”

— Nelson Mandela
