Archuleta Seniors Inc. and Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association have joined forces for a second year to bring an early season holiday market to Pagosa Springs on Saturday November 2 from 9am – 3pm and Sunday, November 3 from 10am – 2pm at the PLPOA Clubhouse at 230 Port Ave Pagosa Springs. Join us to kick off the holiday season and boost your holiday spirit and shopping experience. We will have over 30 artisan vendors for your shopping delight featuring handcrafted gifts for your perusal and consideration. New this year we will also have food trucks and a holiday cocktail cash bar to add to the holiday spirit. Funds raised will benefit Archuleta Seniors Inc. Celebrate National Family Caregivers Month
National Family Caregivers Month 2024 is an annual observance dedicated to recognizing and honoring the selfless individuals who provide essential care and support to their loved ones who are ill, disabled, or elderly. This month-long campaign seeks to raise awareness about the challenges faced by family caregivers, celebrate their dedication, and provide resources and support to help them in their caregiving roles. National Family Caregivers Month is observed throughout the month of November each year, providing a month of opportunities to recognize and support family caregivers.
How to Get Involved with National Family Caregivers Month 2024?
There are several ways to get involved and show your support for family caregivers during National Family Caregivers Month.
Express Your Gratitude: Take the time to thank family caregivers you know for their dedication and selflessness.
Offer Assistance: If you have a friend or family member who is a caregiver, offer to help with tasks such as grocery shopping, cooking, or providing respite care.
Join Support Groups: Connect with local or online caregiver support groups to share experiences and gain valuable insights.
Advocate for Caregiver Rights: Support policies and initiatives that benefit family caregivers, such as paid family leave and caregiver tax credits.
Donate to Caregiver Organizations such as Archuleta Seniors Inc.: Consider making a donation to organizations that provide resources and support to family caregivers.
Medical Monitoring Devices & Caregiver Supports Available
Archuleta Seniors Inc. provides access to affordable medical monitoring devices to support older adults who are homebound or otherwise need support if they fall or have an emergency that they can immediately contact emergency services. Clients participating in this program can be independent or may have access to a private or family caregiver. An initial nominal fee is required to access the medical monitoring program. ASI also provides limited caregiver support through our congregate dining or grab n go/pickup meal program as well as access to social/educational programming. We are also in the planning stages to offer a caregiver support group in the new year, stay tuned for more details! These services are available for a suggested donation but no one 60 and older will be turned away for lack of ability to pay. Healthy Aging & Yoga Therapy Class Series
The Healthy Aging Yoga Series continues to be offered in person at the Pagosa Senior Center on Mondays from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm and will be structured by therapeutic yoga tools and techniques with chair movement, standing stretches, gentle postures, breathing practices and reflective meditative moments. We request that individuals new to the series arrive early for intake inquiries and to please communicate with our new instructor Kimberly Anderson directly by email at zinkgraf@gmail.com.
Free Stretching & Mobility Weekly Class
Community members are invited to attend new free weekly classes, every Tuesday this fall and winter, from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at the Pagosa Springs Senior Center (451 Hot Springs Blvd. in the back of the Ross Aragon Community Center). The stretching and mobility classes for older adults (age 55+) are designed to help build balance in the body through functional exercises that aim to improve mobility and flexibility. The program is instructed by local ballet dance instructor Dee Pitchon who will provide modifications to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the exercises.
Tai Chi
The Pagosa Senior Center is offering T’ai Chi Chih with accredited instructor Patti Popovich each Thursday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm (meet at the Pagosa Senior Center dining hall located in the back of the Ross Aragon Community Center) to support older adults who want to discover purpose and fulfillment in this transitional phase of life. All classes will be free for older adults (age 55 and better) and will last approximately 1 hour. No special special clothing or equipment is required.
Share Lunch and Dine Monday through Friday
Open to All. Join us at the Silver Fox’s Den aka Community Cafe in person for daily hot/cold meals Mondays through Fridays downtown at the Ross Aragon Community Center between 11 am and 1 pm weekly. Pickup is available all week including Fridays. Our dining hall is open to all ages and welcomes you all with kindness and warmth. We provide hot/cold meals for anyone in the community interested in a nutritious and delicious meal. For those 60 or older we request a suggested donation of $6.00, but no one will be turned away. There is a $10.50 charge for guests under the age of 60. Meals include a main course, side dish, fruit/dessert, garden salad plus beverage. Our menu changes daily. Senior Conversations
Join us every Monday at 1:15pm for a series of “Senior Conversations” with local Bill Salmansohn. He will lead the group through mindfulness exercises and discussion of various topics pertaining to aging in Archuleta County. Explore and discover for yourself answers to your questions and concerns. Hold space and show up for sacred conversation. The meeting will be held at the Pagosa Senior Center in the dining hall. Snacks will be provided.
Mindful Drawing
Mindful Drawing is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Join our friendly instructor Roberta Strickland, CZT. Classes are every Wednesday at 1:15pm in the Pagosa Senior Center. This activity is open to all ages. Help us create an intergenerational community. For those under 18 and/or with disabilities you are welcome to join us, but we kindly ask you to please bring an adult chaperone with you.
ASI Board of Directors has multiple vacant positions open. Terms are 3 years with an option to renew for an additional term. Potential candidates should be at least 21 years of age or older and must have a passion for adult and aging services.
