Durango Wine Experience Selects Nonprofit Partners

By Rachel Rosenthal

The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado announces the ten nonprofits selected to receive grants as part of this year’s Durango Wine Experience, including the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

The shoulder-season event, which sold out in the past two years, will be held in Durango on April 26-27. Weekend passes are available now at www.durangowine.com/tickets/, and single event tickets will be available starting April 1.

Proceeds from ticket sales and corporate sponsorships will provide the Community Foundation with funding to bolster their mission-driven work supporting the nonprofit sector in Southwest Colorado. Nonprofits across multiple sectors and geographic areas have been selected to receive a $2,500 grant, along with the chance to share their missions with Durango Wine Experience attendees by volunteering at the DWE Walkabout on Friday, April 26 and at the DWE Grand Tasting on Saturday, April 27.

The 2024 nonprofit grantees are:

  • Adaptive Sports Association
  • Durango Independent Film Festival
  • Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County
  • Humane Society of Pagosa Springs
  • La Plata Historical Society/Animas Museum
  • Mancos FoodShare
  • Music in the Mountains
  • San Juan Citizens Alliance
  • Southwest Conservation Corps
  • Stillwater Music

The Durango Wine Experience in downtown Durango features a Friday night Walkabout at multiple locations, a Saturday afternoon Grand Tasting at the Smiley Building lawn, as well as educational seminars, wine dinners, and unique tastings. There will be hundreds of wineries and regional artisan spirits and craft beers represented.

“We are pleased to share with Durango Wine Experience attendees details about the vital work being done in the community by local nonprofits,” says Briggen Wrinkle, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. “This grant is a great way to showcase how our region’s amazing nonprofits help everyone thrive.”
