Are you interested in local food sources? Then you know that food produced locally is better for you, that it tastes better and contributes to the economic health of our community and ultimately to its resilience. You will not want to miss the Healthy Archuleta Growers & Producers Forum tomorrow, Thursday November 16 at 4:00pm in the Community United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Lewis Street.
Another great opportunity to meet the farmers and know where your food comes from.
The Forum performs an important dual function; it provides our local food growers and producers with a venue where they can share their vision and their successes and challenges while at the same time providing the consumers of local food with information regarding what is available and where it is to be found.
This month’s Growers & Producers Forum will feature two very busy families involved in producing local food for the community – the Wattier Family and the Ford Family.
The Wattier Family’s 84 Ranch is an up-and-coming family business nestled in our beautiful mountains. Their mission is to focus on faith and to provide their family and local community with all natural products and pasture raised meats as well as educate on regenerative agriculture and the healthy lifestyle these practices provide. And from the farm kitchen come some amazing sourdough creations and jars of luscious, preserved fruit.
Three Fords Farm is a happening place! What began as a family farm transitioned into a family business in January of 2022. That first year the farm produced eggs, 300 chickens, 50 turkeys and the realization that was a lot of fowl! This year saw fewer fowl – just the 50 turkey which are already sold – but added beef, pork and goat to the eggs and honey.
To learn more about the local efforts of these families, please join us tomorrow, Thursday November 16 at 4pm for our next Growers & Producers Forum.
We look forward to seeing you there.
