Pagosa Chamber Seeking Board Nominations

The annual process for accepting Chamber of Commerce board nominees is open to the public who are Chamber member businesses.

Every year, the Chamber replaces three board members who have served for a three-year term. In this way, three new members come onto the nine-member board every year and three board members come off the board. This keeps a fluid momentum of experience and “new blood” on the board.

The Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit organization with a 501(c)(6) status. We are a membership-based organization also producing several major events throughout the year to help sustain the organization.

There are criteria that a business must meet in order to self-nominate for the board. The first requirement is that the business be a Chamber member in good standing for a year. The seat is typically held by the business, not necessarily the person. However, that representative needs to be someone integral with the organization such as an owner or key manager or employee.

Meetings are held once a month with additional meetings as required. Participation at other Chamber events such as monthly Business After Hours and other annual Chamber community events is also requested.

The Chamber board looks to make up the board with a range of businesses, giving representation to the whole of the business community. While some decisions work for some industries, they don’t work for all industries; however, this dialogue keeps the Chamber board interesting and looking at the good of the whole community.

One of the key roles is representation and input into keeping the Chamber organization relevant to the business community and supporting our business needs.
