Adults with Development Disabilities Experience Living Without Limits

By Pattie Copenhaver

On October 6, local adults and youth with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) were welcomed at Elk Trace Bed & Breakfast to participate in a two-day event hosted by No Limits Ranch and Aspen House as an opportunity for them to share experiences that let their abilities shine and give them extra courage and determination to take on new experiences.

The LASSO Horse Rescue and Equine Therapy volunteers were onsite to ensure the safety with horse education, grooming and riding experiences.

Artist Fabi shared her love of art by leading a tie dying class, Joanne Irons gave cooking instruction as the adults assisted with preparing food for the Friday evening Hoedown, and Bruce Blankenship led everyone in Karaoke Thursday evening.

The Friday Night Hoedown was a fundraising event for No Limits Ranch and Aspen House that featured Tim Sullivan and his band along with dancing with Beverly Chester.

It was a wonderful evening for all.  We truly appreciate the wonderful hospitality by Evelyn Jones of Elk Trace, Our NLR leader Carolyn Arnold and CEO Andy Arnold, the LASSO volunteers, Buckaroos Horse Drawn Rides and everyone who worked so hard to make this event a memorable experience for our adults and a great way for them to share their excitement with the community at the Hoedown.

Aspen House will be launching a capital funding campaign in 2024 that will help them build a permanent home for adults with I/DD along with supplying a full range of services and transportation to help them to lead successful and fulfilling lives in the town they call home.
