FOOD SECURITY: 2023 Off to a Great Start

Health Partners Coming Together for the Benefit of the Community
The network of health partners had its second meeting in January. Present at the meeting were representatives from Pagosa Medical Center, Pagosa Medical Group, Axis Health Center, Alpine Clinic, Authentic Solutions, and members of the Health Equity Assessment team. The group heard from Merida, a bilingual insurance broker, about OmniSalud, followed by a presentation from the Health Equity team that shared the results of the interviews with community members about their experience/expectations related to primary and preventive health care services in Archuleta County. The group then discussed strategies to increase access to primary and preventive health care services. More to come on the work of this group in the coming months.

Food Access and Security
On a cold January day, our dedicated volunteers partnered with Walmart to offer shoppers going into the store a list of items requested by food pantries for purchase and donation to our neighbors through the food pantries in Archuleta County. Much gratitude for their support and the matching donation of $1,000 by the Bank of Colorado to help purchase the much needed items to add to the donation for our neighbors who visit the food pantries.

Meeting with our Funder
Healthy Archuleta is supported by grants and donations. One of our funders who regularly checks in with us to share and learn alongside us is the Colorado Health Foundation. We were glad to sit down with our program officer for a conversation with our community champions. We heard about the Vista Lake Garden, Spanish language equity, Seed to Supper classes in English and Spanish, and activities and strategies that are supporting an increase in local food supply by focusing on programming, policy, system, and environmental changes in our community.

Seed to Supper has Launched
Last week was the start of the Seed to Supper 6-week classes. Two classes are held in English and one in Spanish. We had an overwhelming interest from the community to where we had to open a second section of this class in English. More information to follow on this great community interest.
