Smiley Café to Presents Singer-Songwriter Kim Richey This Friday, Jan. 19

The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College presents an intimate evening with singer-songwriter, Kim Richey as part of their ‘Live @ the Smiley Café’ series Friday, January 19, at 7:30pm.

Kim Richey – a singer-songwriter with a penchant for earthbound lyrics and soaring melodies – came onto the music scene in the 1990s and signed her first recording contract with Mercury Nashville at the age of 37. She spent the next few years promoting her albums and touring with Wynonna Judd.

An Ohio native, Richey’s passion for music was sparked early on in her great aunt’s record shop where she would scour the bins and soak it all in. She took up the guitar in high school and while studying environmental education and sociology at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, she played in a band with Bill Lloyd.

As a songwriter, Richey has written two No. 1 hits… including Radney Foster’s, “Nobody Wins” and Trisha Yearwood’s Grammy-nominated, “Believe Me Baby”. She also collaborated and worked with other artists including Reba McEntire, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Gretchen Peters, Patty Loveless, Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, Shawn Colvin, Jamie Lawson and Jim Lauderdale.

Since the release of her 1995 self-titled debut album, Richey has “won raves for her sweetly alluring, folk-friendly brand of country” (World Café), while Bitter Sweet (1997) and Glimmer (1999) cemented her status as a gifted singer/songwriter. Subsequent releases include Rise (2002), Chinese Boxes (2007), Wreck Your Wheels (2010), Thorn In My Heart (2013) and Edgeland (2018).

The Live @ The Smiley Café Series has limited seating for 50 in a small, intimate setting for acoustic performances. Tickets are $25 and on sale at www.durangoconcerts.com, or by phone at 970-247-7657.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
