Smiley Café Presents Singer-Songwriter Mike Green This Saturday Evening

The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College presents an intimate evening with singer-songwriter, Mike Green as part of their ‘Live @ the Smiley Café’ series this Saturday, December 3 at 7:30pm. Green brings his original collection of ballads, rock and blues – all telling good stories and sharing a few special arrangements from some of his favorite musicians.

Mike Green is a musician who spent most of his adult life as a booking agent for some of the country’s great songwriters including Tom Paxton, Patty Larkin, Utah Phillips, Ani DiFranco, Tom Rush, John Gorka, Christine Lavin, Greg Brown, Kelly Joe Phelps, Cheryl Wheeler, The Story, John McCutcheon, Carrie Newcomer, Jesse Winchester, Holly Near, Stephen Fearing, Ferron, Garnet Rogers, Connie Kaldor, Eddie From Ohio, Catie Curtis, David Wilcox, Laurie Lewis, Willy Porter, Dave Carter, and many more.

Green played music professionally in his early twenties during the 70’s, and toured around the northeast playing coffeehouses, bars, and college gigs. He managed a folk music venue, the Coffeehouse Extempore, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and where he met singer-songwriter, Tom Rush. Rush asked him to be his booking agent with Tom’s Maple Hill Productions agency in New Hampshire. Green’s career took on a more permanent path and he started his own agency – Mike Green & Associates.

Concert Hall Director Charles Leslie met Mike Green and worked with him over the years presenting artists from his roster of artists.

Working closely with so many great songwriters, Green soaked in their influences and helped guide many of their careers. When the COVID pandemic hit in early 2020, suddenly he had time on his hands and was able to play a lot of music again. Green says “the songs started pouring out, both because I’d learned so much from these master songwriters, and because I had decades more life under my belt. Apparently, I have a lot to say, and it feels great to have a vehicle with which to express so much of it.”

The Smiley Cafe offers a small, intimate experience for an audience of 50 – creating the perfect “listening room” venue. Beer, wine, and spirits along with special coffees will be available for sale throughout the evening. Tickets are $25 and available online at www.durangoconcerts.com or at 970-247-7657.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
